Well, this is certainly unfortunate. Star Adam DeVine has revealed that Paramount+ has canceled the Workaholics movie. According to DeVine, he was told by the streamer that film did not fit into the company’s “new global strategy.”. He was of course one of the stars of the original 2011-2017 Comedy Central sitcom as Adam DeMamp.
This was quite a swerve too, as insiders say the Workaholics movie was on Paramount's content roadmap for 2023, and to remind you, the year hasn't even hit ten days yet. Could it be anti-recreational drug sentiment that it's incompatible with so many family series they're ready to push? Who knows. The film was originally announced to be in development in February 2021, with a premise surrounding working through the pandemic. DeVine laments how it's painful that he doesn't “get to work with [his] best friends again,”, and that the cast and crew now have to go out for new jobs just as they were emotionally and situationally preparing for this one. The film is currently being shopped to other streamers.
Workaholics also starred Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck, with 86 episodes across seven seasons. They played a trio of immature college dropouts who become co-workers at a telemarketing company. The series also featured Jillian Bell, Maribeth Monroe, and Erik Griffin. As disappointed as DeVine might be that he can no longer "bring the weird one last time.", there seems to be a silver lining as over on Peacock, his Pitch Perfect series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin with Sarah Hyland, Jameela Jamil and Flula Borg was just renewed for a second season. It has also been declared the service's biggest comedy. The entire run of Workaholics is currently streaming on Paramount+.
