Asher Keddie to Produce and Star In Paramount+ Australia Drama Series ‘Fake’

Asher Keddie has signed on to co-produce and star in Paramount+ Australia’s just-ordered drama-thriller series Fake opposite David Wenham.

Keddie has been acting since childhood, but her television credit most familiar to American audiences is her starring in the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers, created by David E. Kelley and starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy. Back home, her 2020 series Stateless, which streamed on Netflix, starred familiar names like Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, Dominic West, and Cate Blanchett. Most recently, her Prime Video miniseries The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart starred Sigourney Weaver. Among her movie credits, she would most probably be recognized as Dr. Carol Frost in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Wenham has appeared as Faramir in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as Dilios in the 300 films, and the voice of Johnny Town-Mouse in the Peter Rabbit films.

Inspired by the book of the same name by Stephanie Wood, Fake is an eight-part series about an intelligent writer, played by Keddie, who thinks she has found her perfect match when she meets a successful rancher, played by Wenham, on a dating app. But after she commits, she discovers that he might not be who he truly says he is. It was created for television by screenwriter Anya Beyersdorf with director Emma Freeman.

Fake is produced by Kindling Pictures’ Imogen Banks and Emelyne Palmer. The production received major production investment from Paramount ANZ and federal support agency Screen Australia, in association with regional agency VicScreen.

"The concept of 'it would never happen to me' is a familiar one to us all, and Fake which centers around this, is a nuanced and fascinating story," said Sophia Mogford, who is executive producer of drama and comedy at Paramount ANZ.
